The
20th Anniversary of the Pokemon franchise could not be celebrated in
a more fitting manner – by the much anticipated announcement of Generation 7!
Okay,
so let’s talk about the things we do know so far. We know that both games, the Sun
and Moon versions will be coming out on the Nintendo 3DS system later on in the
year. This comes as a massive relief considering GameFreak lets us hold onto
our handheld consoles for a couple more years. It’s not cheap guys!
It
has only been a day since many PokeFans across the world identified two new
trademarks made by the Pokemon Company but were not too fast to read too much into this – as previously, the organisation has trademarked several nuances
of the main titles – as a conscientious effort if and when they might be needed
in the future. This time however, the added insight was highly fruitful and now, we have Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon.
I’ve
been a Trainer since Gen 1 and suddenly the mention of Gen 7 makes me think
about how long my relationship with the game has been, and the genuine
excitement that I feel right now truly validates why my connection to the brand
has persevered through the years.
These
games will feature a whole new region with its own unique mythos and Pokemon
inhabitants. I for one, am extremely excited to find out about what new Pokemon are
in store for us.
A 3D rendering of the new Regional Bird |
The
Pokemon Bank has been given new life as well as it will act like a conduit for
us to transfer all our hard trained favourites into the newest version. The
backward compatibility this feature now holds is unprecedented as we will be
able to transfer Pokemon from Generation 1 through to 6, without any hiccups.
Furthermore,
Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon will be the first games in the series ever that
will have the player choose from 9 languages to play in. In
addition to English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish,
players will now be able to play in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
Concept Art for a new in-game location |
The
logos’ art has been released as well – maintaining the long enduring tradition
of a shade of blue mirrored by a shade of red - Red/Blue, Ruby/Sapphire, X/Y
etc.
I’m
extremely curious to know what the symbols attached to the titles signify. Are
they caricatures of the version Legendries? Are they rare Items exclusive to
each version (much like Silver Wing/Rainbow Wing, Adamant Orb/ Lustrous Orb)?
Or are they an ode to two separate Villainous Teams – and by association two
plots within the same region (Team Aqua/Team Magma)? Not being too speculative
on this front at the moment, as soon, all will be revealed.
There seems to be an ample focus on vehicles - a truck, a firetruck with what seems to be a Blastoise in the rear and a Pokemon Center ambulance |
.
Like
everyone else, I was wondering whether the next game in the main series would
be a follow up to the Kalos region or Gen 7. Clearly it is the latter which
makes me wonder how do they intend on wrapping up the second half of Kalos –
Generation 6.5 if you will.
I mean if they want to go ahead and take us back to
Kalos with an advanced game engine, by all means. We would love that!
Possible New Iteration of the Pokemon Center |
This
is obviously only the first snippet of information that we all have received
and undoubtedly, in true Pokemon fashion, more and more information will be
doled out to us at a glacial pace.
Needless to say, consider our collective breaths - Held!
